‘Of Time and Place’ by Princeton resident Martha Vaughn.
Princeton resident and photographer Martha Vaughn published a hardcover book of her photographs, Of Time and Place.
The 151-page book includes a forward by former Princeton University Art Museum director Allen Rosenbaum. The museum’s consulting editor Jill Guthrie edited the book.
Of Time and Place is currently on sale at the museum shop. Vaughn is set to sign books at the museum 6 p.m. April 22 following the annual meeting of the Friends of the Art Museum.
Vaughn’s photographs showcases her keen artistic eye, which captures light, contrast, color, and composition and transforms them into powerful visual stories.
Photos come from Vaughn’s travels, which include Japan, Morocco, Vietnam, Croatia, Cambodia, India and Tunisia.
Whether the subject is an exotic or a more familiar location, her lens and discerning eye transport the viewer through these evocative visual souvenirs.
“The pictures I selected for this book are those that captured the essence of a particular place, recorded a special — and at times imperfect — moment when a scene becomes sublime due to light, or those that isolated a particular element of a busy scene,” she said in a statement.
Vaughn, a 50-year resident of Princeton, has exhibited her work at galleries and shows in New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Bermuda. Her work is included in the collections of the New Jersey State Museum, the Princeton University Art Museum, the Bermuda Government and in private and corporate collections.
An explorer with the ability to see beyond the literal, Vaughn reveals in her book Of Time and Place the overlooked, the hidden, and the unexpected, and shares them with her viewers. “She has the ability to distill and capture the essence of a place, moment, a profusion of pattern and color,” says Rosenbaum, adding “The alchemy of the eye.”
Of Time and Place was published by Brilliant Graphics in Exton, Pa., and is also available at Labyrinth Books in Princeton.
