Timothy Quinn
Princeton Public Library Communications Director Timothy Quinn received a 2013 Movers and Shakers Award from library trade publication “Library Journal.” The editors present the award annually to individuals recognized as “emerging leaders in the library world who are innovative, creative and making a difference.”
Quinn, who is responsible for the library’s marketing and brand identity, was recognized primarily for his efforts in establishing the library as a critical first responder during community emergencies. He conveyed through social media and other outlets that the library was open and providing relief in the wake of Hurricane Irene in 2011 and Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
On the day after Hurricane Irene hit New Jersey, the library served 4,500 people, nearly double the daily average. Most of their homes were without power. Approximately 20,000 people came to the library in the three days following Superstorm Sandy and found warmth, information and a place to power up and work.
Quinn is the Princeton Board of Education president and a member of the Princeton Planning Board. He is the Anchor House Foundation Board of Directors treasurer and has participated in the Anchor House Ride for Runaways for 20 years.
“Library Journal” began recognizing Movers and Shakers on an annual basis in 2002, and since that time 25 recipients have been from New Jersey. Quinn is the fifth Princeton Public Library staffer to receive the award. Programming librarian Janie Hermann received the award in 2007. Youth services librarian Susan Conlon and children’s librarian Allison Santos were recipients in 2009. Assistant Director Peter Bromberg was recognized in 2008 while on staff with the South Jersey Regional Library Cooperative.
The Princeton Public Library is located at 65 Witherspoon St. in Princeton. Convenient parking is available on neighboring streets and in the Spring Street Garage, adjacent to the library. For more information about library programs and services, call (609) 924-9529 or visit princetonlibrary.org
