Princeton Police Department is set to begin phasing in new overnight parking standards in May.
For the past 16 months, the combined municipality of Princeton has considered several options to address the current parking situation in the town, specifically the disparity between overnight parking parking ordinances from each of the former municipalities.
Over the course of May, the Police Department is set to phase in a new standard in which parking permissions will not be granted for overnight parking on any street where overnight parking is prohibited.
The purpose of this grace period is to educate the community about the new standard.
Parking exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the shift commander in the event of emergency or other extraordinary circumstances.
Residents that possess a parking permit will be allowed to park only on streets where their permit is recognized as valid. Parking permits are available to residents through the Town Clerk’s Office for a fee.
According to police, this policy will be in effect until ordinances have been harmonized to address the parking requirements.
