Princeton Police, Fire Department and First Aid and Rescue Squad responded report of a fire on Bayard Lane March 23.
According to police, the squads responded to reports of fire in the basement of the residence at 56 Bayard Lane.
Upon arrival, the structure, along with the adjoining structure at 6 Hodge Road, was evacuated.
Responding fire units were able to extinguish the fire. They determined the fire started after embers from a fire in the fireplace had dropped into an ash clean out in the basement.
Additional assistance fighting the fire was rendered by Plasma Physics, Kingston, Rocky Hill, Plainsboro and Princeton Junction fire departments, as well as the New Jersey Fire Police.
The residence at 56 Bayard was deemed uninhabitable by the Princeton Bureau of Fire Safety; the occupants at 6 Hodge were allowed back into the home after the fire was extinguished.
Route 206 was closed for about 2 ½ hours during the incident.
There were no injuries reported.
