The Princeton Police Department is working to stay in touch with the community.
The department announced the use of a new resident alert system and is seeking feedback through a survey.
Starting March 20, PPD will begin using Nixle Community Information Service to create and publish messages to subscribed residents via cell phone text messages and email. Community members can also view notifications on Nixle’s website, nixle.com.
Messages may include traffic alerts, road closures and weather announcements, as well as other relevant safety and community event information.
Residents can register and choose which local agencies to receive alerts from online. They can also select how to receive alerts, either via email, text message or over the web.
Users can also choose to receive alerts from a 1/4 mile radius, which allows them to see information only relevant to their neighborhoods.
PPD Captain Nicholas Sutter said in a statement the department is excited to add Nixle to their inventory of social media tools, including Facebook and Twitter.
“The great part of Nixle is that it will allow us to get information to members of the Princeton community who may not have immediate internet access. Ultimately this will do nothing but benefit the community,” Sutter said.
The police are trying to understand the community’s attitude toward their department through a survey.
Members of PPD’s Safe Neighborhood Unit are going door-to-door in various areas through town to meet individuals and gather feedback on the department’s current and future services.
Survey days are set to be announced through PPD’s social media outlets.
