Princeton HealthCare System received the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for the care provided in the new Jim Craigie Center for Joint Replacement.
The certification, which applies to both knee and hip replacement procedures, was awarded following an on-site review.
Certification requirements address three core areas; compliance with consensus-based standards, effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care and an organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.
The center, which opened to patients Nov. 4, was named to acknowledge a gift from Jim Craigie, CEO of Church & Dwight, who had both hips replaced at the former University Medical Center at Princeton. He made the donation to honor his surgeon, W. Thomas Gutowski, chief of orthopaedic surgery for PHCS.
Dr. Gutowski also serves as medical director of the Jim Craigie Center, which offers minimally invasive procedures, research-based clinical protocols and a thorough program of pre- and post-operative care for patients receiving total knee or total hip replacements.
Certification for the new center is separate from Joint Commission accreditation of PHCS’ programs, including UMCPP, Princeton House Behavioral Health and Princeton HomeCare. Last month, for the third year in a row, the Joint Commission named PHCS a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures to recognize exemplary performance related to heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.
The Jim Craige Center is located at University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro.
