Princeton Center for Yoga and Health is set to offer a free yoga class for veterans and individuals dealing with stress and anxiety disorders on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Orchard Hill Center, 88 Orchard Road, Skillman.
The yoga class is a multi-layered yoga practice designed to relieve the debilitating effects of stress. Experience these clinically tested tools developed for coping with PTSD and for support for transforming into a life of strength and resilience. Open to veterans and those suffering from stress disorders, as well as family and caregivers. Taught by Dan Fernandez, who teaches Yoga for Beginners and Yoga for Stress Reduction at Princeton Yoga and is certified in the Mindful Yoga Therapy for Veterans program hosted by Princeton Yoga last year.
Following the yoga practice at 2:30 p.m., veterans, their families and care givers are invited to stay for a seated acupuncture treatment with Karen Flicker, an acupuncturist who specializes in pain management and musculoskeletal issues and who is certified in the Battlefield Acupuncture protocol which was designed specifically for veterans by the physician in charge of alternative medicine for the US armed services. It is done in a group setting with relaxing music. Only tiny, sterile (single use) virtually painless ear needles will be used and participants will be fully clothed. To register for this free acupuncture treatment you must be a veteran or a family member of a vet.
The Mindful Yoga Therapy for Veterans programs are clinically tested by the program developers who have been working with Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in residential treatment programs and in outpatient programs for several years. This work led to the development of Mindful Yoga Therapy.
This program is open to all, but a preference will be given to veterans and their families and caregivers. The class is free to veterans and family members and costs $20 for others. No experience necessary; suitable for all levels.
Pre-registration required for acupuncture; no walk-ins. Contact (609) 924-7294 or deborah@princetonyoga.com.
