The Princeton Photography Club (PPC) is set to hold its next general meeting on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will feature guest speaker photographer Robert Cunningham and will be held at D&R Greenway Land Trust located at One Preservation Place in Princeton.
Cunningham will provide insights into what it is like to serve in Afghanistan. He previously accompanied soldiers from 40 different units on 132 combat missions and followed them through every aspect of their service, from the mundane to the dangerous. He took 55,000 photos during his time as an embedded photographer in Afghanistan from which he, along with New York Times best-selling author and serviceman Steven Hartov, produced his debut photography book, “Afghanistan: On the Bounce.” The book conveys the full range of the troops’ experiences—on patrol, in combat, in the chow line, in religious services. The stories and the behind-the-scenes photos attempt to demystify for civilians the details of military life.
At the PPC general meeting, Cunningham will share a selection of photos from his book as well as insights from his experience. He will also have a book signing and copies will be available for purchase for $31.61. In addition to his recent publishing success, Cunningham’s resume includes membership in the National Press Photographers Association, Society of Professional Journalists, Professional Photographers of America and Nikon Professional Services; commercial work for The George W. Bush Institute, The National Aviation Hall of Fame, and United Airlines; and permanent exhibits at The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, The International Aerospace Hall of Fame and The Robertson Safety Institute at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be offered. For directions or more information, contact Carl Geisler, President, at (732) 422-3676 or visit the PPC website at princetonphotoclub.org.
