The award-winning Traditions, an international showcase of festivals, celebrations, and holidays, returns for the eighth annual showing in Plainsboro Township. The festival, which received a special events award from the New Jersey Recreation and Parks Association, takes place in the Plainsboro Municipal Building, Public Library, and Wicoff House on Saturday, December 3, from 12:30 to 4:45 p.m. Admission is free.##M:[more]##
Activities scheduled throughout the afternoon feature dance, theater, musical performances, exhibits, folk crafts, demonstrations, stories, costumes, and cooking demonstrations. Sample New Year traditions of Asia and the Far East, Winter Solstice, Twelfth Night, and Kwanzaa.
Participating organizations include Alborada Spanish Dance Troupe, Princeton Korean Dance Troupe, Ballet Folklorico, and Griggstown Lock Rapper Sword Dancers.
Also participating: the Plainsboro Historical Society, Plainsboro Chinese School, Nrithyanjali Institute of Dance, DeNogra Irish Dance School, Handsome Molly Dancers, Millstone River Morris Dancers, Argen-Tango, Ten Thousand Villages, Junko Tano School of Dance, Marafanyi Percussion, and Princeton Embroiderers’ Guild.
West Windsor-Plainsboro Chinese and Korean classes, English as Second Language classes, and area cultural groups, are also involved in the event. Area chefs specializing in ethnic cuisine will be presenting culinary demonstrations. The library will be showing an international toy exhibit.
Attendees use their “passports” as entry forms for door prizes — awarded at the conclusion of the event.
