The Plainsboro Township Committee voted unanimously on November 28 to appoint Nuran Nabi to the committee seat vacated by Ginger Gold Schnitzer in October.##M:[more]##
Nabi, a resident of Kinglet Drive South, has been serving on the Planning Board since last summer. He and his wife, Zeenat, have been living in Plainsboro for the past 14 years and have two sons, Mushfik and Adnan, both of whom graduated from the West Windsor-Plainsboro school district.
The two other candidates for the position were Lavinia Kumar and longtime Planning Board chairman Arthur Lehrhaupt.
A retired research scientist, Nabi worked 22 years for Colgate Palmolive Co. and retired as an associate director of technology. He was the inventor of the Colgate Total toothpaste technology and has more than 100 patents and publications to his credit.
In addition to serving on the Planning Board, Nabi previously served three years on the township’s Human Relation Committee in the late 1990s. He is also founder of various Bangladesh organizationsand has written two books on Bangladesh liberation movement and liberation war.
Nabi said he plans to run for re-election after the term expires, and hopes in addition to dealing with issues relating to the quality of life, the environment, and fiscal responsibility, he wants to work to further integrate people of various backgrounds into the diverse community. — Cara Latham
