At the Plainsboro Township Committee meeting October 26 new Chief Guy Armour announced that the police department has scheduled “hospital meetings” for November — to prepare for the opening of the $447 million University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro, now just six months away.
Armour says meetings are necessary “to continue with the traffic plan, which includes all municipalities that are going to have traffic issues on and after their opening ceremonies on May 22, 2012.”
As part of the traffic planning for the new hospital, Committee Member Neil Lewis reported that the Plainsboro Fire Company will be putting into place the Opticon traffic light control system that will enable emergency vehicles to change traffic signals in order to cross busy intersections in a safer manner.
In other news from the Plainsboro police department, Officers Deon McCall and Patrick Miller, who started on the job in July and were profiled in the September 23 edition of the WW-P News, have officially come off field training.
Officer Martin McElrath, who joined the department in early 2009, was reassigned to the detective bureau, replacing Tom Newbon, who was promoted out of the detective bureau to be a corporal and patrolman. At the November 9 committee meeting a resolution will be brought forward for the purchase of two new Dodge Chargers for the police department. Business Administrator Robert Sheehan said the vehicles would be part of the township’s routine replenishment of its police
fleet, which currently has nine Chargers as well as many Ford Crown Victorias. Lieutenant Joseph Duffy said the full number of police vehicles to be added will not be clarified until a budget review is undertaken.
