College of New Jersey: Megan Gerity of Plainsboro received a bachelor of science in early childhood education and a minor in religious studies. She graduated from High School South in 2008.
Gerity also received the Kenyon Group’s Florence Foster Award for early childhood education on May 9 at Rutgers University. She completed an Advocates for Children internship in January.
She has been inducted into four national honor societies and is an Americorp and Bonner scholarship recipient. During this past year she has worked in the afterschool program in the Hedgepath Williams school in Trenton, worked on the website for Kidsbridge Museum, and works at Can-Do fitness center’s child care room. She has also been hired as a substitute teacher in the Princeton Montessori school.
Gerity was one of 15 students who spent an academic year studying the economics, politics, and history of Nicaragua, and raised $2,100 to volunteer in Central America. The students met with leaders and employees of non-profit organizations with focuses on poverty, HIV/AIDS, and female equality during their 10 days there.
After graduation she will enroll at Fo Guang University in Taiwan to study Buddhist life. Fo Guang Shan monastery offers a free summer month abroad to undergraduate and graduate students interested in Chinese and Mahayana Buddhism. Along with three hours of academic coursework daily, the students are trained in Zen meditation and spend one week in silent retreat.
Gerity will attend graduate school at TCNJ. During her spring semester of graduate studies Gerity will be student teaching at the Ruamrudee International School in Bangkok, Thailand. This will be the 22nd country she has visited in her 22 years.

Steven R. Jany of West Windsor was nominated for appointment to the Water Supply Advisory Council of the agricultural community. Governor Chris Christie filed the nomination with the State Senate and Secretary of State’s office. The Governor’s nominations are subject to the advice and consent of the State Senate.

Mia Barkenbush of West Windsor has been selected as a Pop Warner All-American Scholar, Second Team. She ranks academically in the top 2 percent of close to 400,000 children who took part in Pop Warner Little Scholars’ spirit cheer and football programs nationwide. She will be recognized during the 52nd All American Weekend at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club in Orlando, Florida, on May 25 and 26.
She participates in cheer and lacrosse. Barkenbush is in sixth grade at Thomas Grover Middle School, plays string bass in the school orchestra, and is a fifth year concert harp student.
