The Anne Reid ’72 Art Gallery at Princeton Day School is set to present “Double Vision,” featuring the photographs of mother/daughter artists Martha Vaughn and Barbara Vaughn ’78. The exhibit will be on view from February 11 through March 17, 2016. An opening reception featuring the artists is set to take place on Thursday, February 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

As Princeton Day School continues to celebrate its 50th Anniversary, the Anne Reid ’72 Art Gallery is honored to exhibit photographs from the studios of Martha Vaughn and Barbara Vaughn. “Double Vision” marks the first time this mother-daughter team has exhibited works together.

Both artists began their careers at Princeton Day School in the 1970’s through photography courses taught by Robert Denby. Martha Vaughn continued to study at the International Center of Photography in New York and the Maine Photography Workshop in Rockport before she was invited to attend The Ansel Adams Workshop in Carmel, CA. After graduating from Princeton Day School in 1978 and Princeton University, Barbara Vaughn also attended the International Center of Photography and launched a very successful portraiture business in New York City. After two decades of commissions for editorial, corporate and private clients, her focus shifted to the creation of fine art images inspired by Cubism, Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism. The subject of her most recent work is water; specifically reflections of common scenes in undulating water, distorted by its movement and frozen by the camera.

Barbara Vaughn’s work has been published in numerous books including Roy Lichtenstein: Sculpture (Gagosian Gallery), Growing Up Guggenheim (ISI Books) Nerve: The New Nude (Chronicle), Victoria Hagan: Interior Portraits (Rizzoli), Tory Burch: In Color (Abrams), In the Spirit of the Hamptons (Assouline), Kate Spade: Places to Go, People to See (Abrams), as well as in magazines including Time, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Town & Country, Paris Match and Art in America. Her images have been featured in advertising campaigns for Kodak and Perrier-Jouet. Barbara is represented by Dolby Chadwick Gallery, San Francisco, CA, Friesen Gallery, Sun Valley, ID, Quogue Gallery, Quogue, NY and has exhibited at 45 Bleecker Gallery and Taranto Gallery, New York City, Eden Rock Gallery, St. Barth’s, and Palette Art, Healdsburg, CA.

Martha Vaughn has exhibited extensively in Bermuda Biennials, at the National Arts Club, New York and in many collections including the collection of the Princeton University Art Museum.
