For Kids

New York Giants Youth Football Camp for ages 6 to 14 will be held at the Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart, Monday to Friday, July 8 to 12, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program is led by professional coaches and former New York Giants. Kids learn to run, throw, catch, defend, and compete through safe, non-contact instruction.

For Dog Lovers

Attitudes in Reverse seeks people to foster AIR dogs in training. The dogs will be trained to be emotional support dogs for individuals who have mental health disorders or other types of disabilities. For Veterans

Mercer County offers free ID cards to veterans during the weeks of Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Veterans Day. The requirements include Mercer County residency for at least six months, a valid birth certificate with a raised seal or a naturalization certificate, a valid NJ motor vehicle license, voter registration card, or lease agreement. To have military veteran status designated on the ID card, veterans must also produce or register their DD-214 honorable discharge papers with the county clerk’s office. Call 609-278-7108.

Are You Ready?

National Hurricane Preparedness Week begins Sunday, May 26, and residents are advised to plan and prepare for potential tropical storms this summer and fall. The hurricane season usually runs from June 1 through November 30, although the peak time for hurricane and tropical storm activity in New Jersey is mid-August through the end of October.

Prepare by putting together a kit of emergency supplies that includes a three-day supply of canned, non-perishable, ready-to-eat food; a three-day supply of water (a total of 3 gallons per family member); a battery-operated radio and extra batteries; a flashlight and extra batteries; and a first aid kit. Make a plan for what you and your family will do during an emergency, including knowing how to evacuate and how to shelter in place. Stay informed of possible threats by tuning in to your local media outlets for the latest breaking weather news. Audition

Allied Playwrights will hold auditions for “Queen Jane,” a new verse drama by Marvin Harold Cheiten, directed by Dan Berkowitz, on Saturday and Sunday, May 11 and May 12, in Princeton. The play is about Lady Jane Grey, Queen of England for nine days in 1553. Rehearsals begin Friday, August 2, and the show runs six weekend performances from Friday, August 16 to Sunday, August 25.

Seeking union and non-union performers. AEA: Special Appearance Contract (Equity approval pending); non-union actors receive $1,500 stipend. Female roles are cast. Outdoor Activities

Mercer County Park Marina will open for the season beginning Saturday, May 25. The marina offers pedal boats, rowboat, and kayak rentals, $15 to $20 per hour. Pontoon boat rides, a 50-minute lake tour, will be available for $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and children under 11. Tours begin at 1, 3, and 5 p.m. and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The docks on the Delaware, located behind Arm & Hammer Park, are available for use by the public. Boat owners have access to the docks through October with regular hours of sunrise to sunset, seven days a week. The docks are maintained and operated by the Mercer County Park Commission and allow travelers on the Delaware access to Trenton attractions such as Trenton Thunder games and Rho restaurant and nightclub. The docks are not staffed, so patrons are urged to practice water safety precautions.

Rosedale Park in Hopewell Township also offers residents a prime fishing location as its 38-acre lake is stocked with trout and features a public access boat launch open to row boats, canoes, and boats with electric motors. Rosedale also has a picnic area, two playgrounds, and an extensive network of hiking trails. Visit www.mercercountyparks.org.

Call for Art

Trenton Downtown Association is seeking a design for a banner to impact the downtown district. The winning design will be reproduced on 30” by 60” banners installed throughout the Capital City’s downtown district, with the winner receiving a cash prize of $300.

The contest is open to all artists. Full-color designs are welcomed, and inclusion of www.DestinationTrenton.com in the design is encouraged, though not required. The jury for the contest will consist of artists, city representatives, and professionals. Entries will be judged by how well they represent the character of Trenton’s downtown district; how well the artwork welcomes individuals to downtown Trenton; and the quality of the artistic representation of Artisan and Historic themes.
