Call for Entries
Area writers and artists are invited to submit their work for possible inclusion in Kelsey Review 2012, a Mercer County literary journal published annually by Mercer County Community College. The review accepts short fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction essays, excerpts of novels, black and white line drawings (suitable for digital scanning), and cartoons. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, May 15. Responses will be sent by August 15. Fiction pieces must be limited to 4,000 words. Creative non-fiction essays must be limited to 2,500 words. Poetry should be limited to no more than six poems. No submissions should be submitted for publication elsewhere or have been previously published.
Send hard copy manuscripts of poetry and prose and/or legible copies of art (not the only copy) to: Kelsey Review, Liberal Arts Division, Mercer County Community College, Box B, Trenton 08690. A cover letter should include contact information, including E-mail address, and a short biography beginning with full name. A self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope should be enclosed for the editors’ response. If the work is accepted, Kelsey Review will request an electronic version for scanning. Lawrence Arts Council seeks art in all media for members-only exhibit opening Sunday, May 6, at Lawrence Library. New members are welcome. Mercer County seeks fourth grade students to participate in “My County,” the sixth annual school poster contest to recognize Mercer County government. The contest seeks posters that depicts all that is special and unique to Mercer County including landmarks, attractions, and area history. The top three winners will be invited for a photo session with the County Clerk, Surrogate, and Sheriff. Winning posters will be displayed in a public place. All posters become the property of Mercer County.
All posters must be submitted on a standard 22 x 28 inch poster board. The name “Mercer County” must be in four inch letters formed in black marker at the top of the poster. The student’s name, teacher’s name, and name of their elementary school must be printed neatly on the back lower right corner of the poster. Trenton Boys & Girls Club Bike Exchange, an all-volunteer effort that collects, repairs, and sells donated used bikes, celebrates its fourth anniversary. The Bike Exchange shop, located in the Capitol Plaza Shopping Center, on the Trenton/Ewing border. has sold 5,619 donated bikes and raised $252,000 for the Boys & Girls Club to benefit low income families and after school programs. Individuals are needed to donate old bikes, run a bike drive in their neighborhood, workplace, school, place of worship, or scout troop; and volunteer at the Bike Exchange. Friends of the Princeton Public Library seek donations of books for its used bookstore and annual book sale.
