Hayes hit two dramatic 3-pointers in pre-holiday games to help North get off to its best start ever. Against Howell he sent the game into overtime with less than 2 seconds on the clock. He hit 7 3-point shots in the game. In the Hightstown game the score was tied at 45 when Hayes sank a last-second shot from beyond the mid-court line.
South, still seeking its first win of the season, trailed by 10 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored North by 6 in the final quarter. Matt Howell led the Pirates with 16 points, followed by Derek Lester, 9, and Jarrett Austin, 7.
The girls’ teams played with similar results. North, led by Brooke Wiener’s 19 points, defeated South, 50-41. Other high scorers for North: Regina Potter, 10; Liz Tang, 8; and Lauren Lentine, 5.
South’s Becky Peters sank four 3-point shots enroute to a 19-point game. Other South scorers included Tia Williams, 8, Dara Male, 6, and Jenna Weinstein, 6. South led, 17-11, at the end of the first quarter.

In the Colleges
West Windsor resident and High School South graduate J.T. Hutchinson was one of 20 members of the 2005 Penn sprint football team named All-CSFL. A junior tailback, he was also named a team captain for 2006.
Hutchinson scored three of Penn’s 11 touchdowns in 2005, and was fourth in the league in rushing, averaging 63.5 yards per game. He had 397 all-purpose yards.
A multiple CSFL honoree, Hutchinson has been honored with two Offensive Player of the Week awards in 2004, when he was the school’s leading rusher and scorer, with 741 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Drew Dampier, a graduate of High School South, is a sophomore defensive back at Penn. In two games he had five solo tackles and one assist.
Former West Windsor resident Phil Marfuggi recieved NSCAA/Adidas Men’s Division I All-America recognition as a member of the Clemson University soccer team. The junior goalkeeper helped third-ranked Clemson to a Final Four berth with a 15-6-3 record.
A member of the varsity soccer team at High School South as a freshman, Marfuggi went on to attend Brandenton Academy in Florida. While there he was named twice to Parade Magazine’s All-America High School Boys Soccer Team.
