Andrew Lavadara of West Windsor was honored as a new Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor on June 9 at the Dutch Neck Presbyterian Church. He is a June graduate of High School North. More than 100 people attended the celebration, including Assemblyman Bill Baroni, Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein, and Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh.##M:[more]##
The son of Frank and Eileen Lavadera, Andrew’s siblings include older brother Antony and younger brother Paul.
When Lavadera was deciding on his Eagle project, he remembered all who lost their lives on 9/11 — especially his Uncle Greg’s cousin, firefighter John McAvoy. Since several residents of West Windsor also perished on that day, Lavadera decided to enhance the West Windsor 9/11 Memorial at the Ron Rogers Arboretum by adding 150 plants to the site. Under his planning and supervision, it took more than 35 volunteers more than 200 hours to complete the project.
Lavadera, also active outside of scouts, was a member of Model Congress, and was awarded the first student directorship of a fall drama. It was during that time that he organized his volunteers to begin his Eagle project, completed his final report, sent out his college applications, and managed to achieve his highest grades ever.
With a passion for the arts, Lavadera has played the piano for 10 years, performed in the fall dramas, spring musicals, and Senior One Acts, portrayed the father in “Bang, Bang Your Dead” to raise awareness of school shootings, was a member of Improv club at High School North, and traveled to Prague with the high school choir.
He will be attending Villanova School of Business in the honors program.
