Jayesh Kapoor of Plainsboro was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a ceremony held October 8 at the Plainsboro municipal building. His Eagle project was to construct, assemble, and set up six benches along the trails of the Plainsboro Preserve. The project was finished in July, 2005 with more than 250 service hours.##M:[more]##
“The bench on the point in Lake McCormack seems have become a destination spot for hikers looking to take in the view of the lake,” said Plainsboro Preserve director Sean Grace. “You can be assured that these efforts will be enjoyed in the years to come.”
A senior at High School South, Kapoor is involved with debates, concert choir, Future Business Leaders of America, and Model UN. “I have gained a deep understanding of diplomacy at the international level, and have come to respect the work that the men and women of the nations of world do in the global arena,” he says. “I want to make social, political and signification strides in re-molding the world of today, so that we may all marvel at the beautiful sculpture of the world of tomorrow. I know that the most powerful impact on my path will be the education I receive and the leadership skills I have gained as a Boy Scout and now as an Eagle Scout.”
Kapoor attended the National Junior Leader Instructors Conference in Philmont, New Mexico, in 2005. He has earned 47 merit badges and regularly participates in outdoor activities such as canoeing and kayaking on the Delaware River and hiking the Appalachian Trail mountain paths.
Kapoor feels that his personal connection to the outdoors and his attitude of cheerful service prompted him to choose the preserve as the location for his project.
“I had the good fortune to learn a lot from my grandparents, who instilled the values of selfless service in line with true Karma philosophy.” Kapoor has been an active Chinmaya Mission BalVihar student since he was three years-old. His grandparents, who live in India, were able to receive visas to attend his Court of Honor.
His father, JJ Kapoor, works as an IT manager at New York Times. His mother, Payal Kapoor, works with the state Department of Labor. His sister, Riddhima, a sixth grade student at Grover Middle School, is working on her Girl Scout Bronze Award.
“I am sure that this project will not only help the people who attend the preserve, but in the long run will also help the Preserve and its mission by bringing in more patrons and visitors to enjoy the beauty of nature,” says Kapoor.
