The Trenton Downtown Association (TDA) opens the new BSB Gallery on Saturday, February 10, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 143 East State Street, the former Broad Street Bank Building at the corner of Montgomery and East State streets.
The gallery is TDA’s latest contribution to the Creek to Canal Creative District (C2C), Trenton’s first arts and cultural district. Organizers say it will be used as a platform to promote and recognize “all the extraordinary art being created in our capital city.”
The opening exhibition, “The Influence of Women,” features the work of six regional artists active in Trenton: Tamara Torres, Aylin Green, Kate Graves, Alia Bensliman, Jesse Vincent, and Lori Jensen. TDA project coordinator Meaghan Singletary and Trenton artist Craig Shofed curated.
The new gallery reactivates one of Trenton’s important historic buildings. The former Broad Street Bank is an early 20th century skyscrapers and reflects the period’s high ceilings, huge columns original ornate light fixtures, and other artistic embellishments.
Funding for the new gallery was provided by the George H. and Estelle M. Sands Foundation and by Isles Inc. with support from the New Jersey Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program.
BSB Gallery will be open Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
