Paul von Autenried Jr., took first place in the junior division of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) piano competition, held at Rowan University, on November 10. The West Windsor resident performed Prelude and Fugue XV by J. S. Bach, Sonata No. 2 by Beethoven, Rondo Capriccioso by Mendelsohn, and Gargoyles by Liebermann. He will perform those pieces and represent New Jersey at the Eastern Conference of the MTNA on January 11 and 12, at Penn State University. He will compete against pianists from 12 other states, and the winner of that competition will proceed to the national competition in Denver, Colorado.##M:[more]##
Autenried has been a student of Chiu-Tze Lin of Manalapan for the past five years. His recent accomplishments include being selected for a master class with world-renown pianist Victor Rosenbaum, performing with the Shanghai Chamber Music Orchestra at the Grand Theater in Shang
hai, China, and performing with the Manalapan Battleground Symphony.
An eighth grader at Grover Middle School, Autenried is the Student Council president, plays doubles on the varsity tennis team, and plays the cello in the chamber orchestra.
Marisa Edwards, an eighth grader at Community Middle School, won the NJMTA Young Musicians Competition for her age category. Min-Jeh Lee, an eighth grader at Grover Middle School, will also represent New Jersey at the Eastern Conference, playing the clarinet. The alternate winner at the competition is Constance Lin Kaita of Manalapan, a student of Chiu-Ling Lin of West Windsor.
