##M:[more]##Michael Donnelly is an attorney by training, but has elected to put his career on hold to stay at home and raise his four children. His wife, Laura, is a patent attorney for Johnson & Johnson, and they have lived on Benford Drive for the past three years.
The family moved to New Jersey from Alexandria, VA when Laura was transferred to the area. They chose West Windsor specifically for the school district. “I’d like to serve the community. I’d like to make sure all the various students are cared for as well as they can be,” says Donnelly.
“I want to investigate ways the district can make sure that kids who are not at the very top of the academic scale or at the bottom who need extra services can get them. It’s sometimes difficult to get that if you’re not performing poorly enough,” says Donnelly. “We are good at providing services for children who excel academically and for those children who perform poorly but the children in the middle who need services sometimes find it difficult to get them.”
Donnelly was raised in Lansing, Michigan. Both his parents were teachers. He went to school at Michigan State University, and went to Franklin Pierce in New Hampshire for his law degree.
Donnelly says both his background as an attorney and his current work as a full time father both make him qualified to be a member of the school board. “My strengths are that I have a lot of involvement with the kids, both at home and in the schools. I am an advocate for improving things that have gone unnoticed. People should know that I am committed and I bring a strong background in law to the table.”
