Princeton National Rowing Association’s Mercer Junior Rowing Club placed third in the Lightweight Women’s Youth Eight event at USRowing’sYouth National Championships at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. on June 9.
The team was one of twenty-four boats that qualified for the championships. They placed behind defending national champions Oakland Strokes from Oakland, Calif. and Wayland-Weston of Wayland, Mass.
The Lightweight Eight lineup featured senior Vicki Jorgensen of West Windsor sophomore Rena White and juniors Beatrice Sclapari adn Christie Samios of Princeton, sophomores Rachel Calabro and sophomore Angelica Escuadro of Robbinsville, junior Katie Sessa of Monroe, freshman Kate Hickey of Yardley, Pa., and junior coxswain Noa Rothstein of Newtown, Pa.
Four other PNRA/Mercer boats competed at Youth Nationals.
The Women’s Youth Pair consisting of Laura Foster of West Windsor and Hayley Bork of Robbinsville finished eighth overall.
The Women’s Lightweight Youth Four consisting of Kristina Gatchalian of Monmouth Junction, Elise Gorberg of West Windsor, Hannah Reim of Skillman, Laura Tomlinson of Montgomery and coxswain Kat Stough of Princeton finished eleventh.
The Men’s Youth Eight consisting of Tim Lee, Cameron Ward, Sean Kelly and Jack Gleim of West Windsor, Aaron Goodman, Joe Shavel and Kyle James of Princeton, Daniel Kennedy-Moore of Cranbury and coxswain Matt Perez of Robbinsville finished eleventh.
The Men’s Youth Four consisting of Finn Ludwig and coxswain Monica Mendoza of West Windsor and Elias Albihera, Brad Mills and Tom Walker of Princeton finished seventeenth.
The Princeton National Rowing Association operates the Finn M.W. Caspersen Rowing Center located on the shores of Mercer Lake, Mercer County Park in West Windsor. The center is a home to the USRowing National and Olympic Teams, as well as rowing clubs and schools.
PNRA runs the Mercer Junior Rowing Program which provides rowing opportunities for the youth from over 30 Greater Mercer County area schools and the Mercer Masters Rowing Program.
