The Princeton Battlefield Society will hold a Memorial Day Weekend Celebration on May 24 from 11 a.m to 5 p.m.
The event, which will be held at Princeton Battlefield, will teach attendees about the Battle of Princeton which took place on January 3, 1777 and was a turning point in the American Revolution and the first battle that the Continental Army won against professional British soldiers.
There will be a military encampment with campfires, cooking and other domestic activities of camp followers as well as muskets, cannon, fifes and drums.
Soldiers will perform tactical formations and drills. There will also be mini-reenactments of the battle and duel with pistols between two officers.
During the event a re-enactor playing General George Washington will give his greetings and answer questions.
There will be presentations by Paul Loane, commander of the Second Pennsylvania Regiment, explaining uniforms, weapons and tactics. The regiment will also participate in the Princeton Memorial Day Parade and a ceremony at the Princeton Battle Monument.
Author Mike di Ionnio will also be there signing his book A Guide to New Jersey’s Revolutionary War Trail.
The event is free and will take place rain or shine.
