Marquand Park turns 60-years-old in April.
The Marquand Park Foundation is set to host a 6oth anniversary celebration 1 to 3 p.m. April 27.
The celebration begins with a tour of the park led by Roland Machold at 12 p.m.
Remarks are set to begin at 1:30 p.m. Marquand Park chair Pamela Machold will introduce town arborist Greg O`Neil, the foundation’s partners Morven Museum and Garden and Blue Ridge Mountain Sports, and representatives of the American Chestnut Tree Foundation.
Mayor Liz Lempert will present a proclamation.
American Chestnut Tree Foundation representatives will describe their efforts to reintroduce a new blight-resistant hybrid tree.
Planting of three hybrid trees is set for 2 p.m.
The celebration wraps up with Find a Tree treasure hunt for kids at 2:30 p.m. The prizes are Marquand Park pins.
This is a rain-or-shine event.
