Two students from High School North recently won awards in the 10th International Earth Science Olympiad in Mie, Japan.
Junior Katherine Zhang and senior Anshu Jonnalagadda were members of the four-person USA main team that competed at the event. At the competition, they were both awarded with individual silver medals. Zhang also earned a bronze certificate for her International Team Field Investigation. Team USA won three silver medals and one bronze medal, one of its best performances in the IESO in recent years.
Jonnalagadda was nominated by his AP Biology teacher, Holly Crochetiere, and Zhang was nominated by High School North Science Olympiad coach, Dr. James Looney.
#b#9/11 remembrance organized at Rutgers#/b#
Princeton Junction resident Marlena Bhame helped organize a 9/11 remembrance at Rutgers University last month. Bham, who is president of the Young Americans for Freedom chapter at Rutgers University, graduated from High School South in 2013. She is a senior this year at Rutgers and is studying Health and Wellness Communications and Entrepreneurship.
To help acknowledge the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and to honor those killed, Bhame helped place a flag for each of the 2,977 victims on the green of Rutgers University College Avenue Campus.
#b#Lemonade stand raises funds for cancer cure#/b#
Brothers Arjun and Rohan Khanna and their friend, Pranay Vittal, all of West Windsor, recently conducted a lemonade stand to raise funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a charity dedicated to finding a cure for pediatric cancers.
This year, which was the brothers’ third year running a lemonade stand, the boys raised $936. Last year they raised $711 for the foundation, and in 2014, they collected $434.

Renuka Ravinder of Plainsboro, a Girl Scout in Troop 71895, recently completed her Silver Award project.
Ravinder created a program called Game Time for Seniors at the Atrium Senior Living of Princeton and the Plainsboro Recreation Center. The goal of the project was to help keep seniors active both physically and mentally by teaching them to play new games.
Also involved were Shradha Miriyala, Avani Shastri, Naman Patangya and Ravinder’s sister, Dakshata.
