#b#Residents Published in Kelsey Review#/b#

Three WW-P residents had their works published in Kelsey Review, the publication’s 30th edition featuring the talents of those who live and work in Mercer County. This year’s publication includes 18 writers, artists, and photographers.

Anne Karetnikov of Plainsboro has two drawings in the publication. “The Magician’s Assistant” depicts a magician and a rabbit on page 40; and “Forest Deer,” her drawing of a deer, is on page 45. A graduate of University of the Arts’ illustration program, she works primarily in ink and watercolor.

Ken Jaworowski of West Windsor is featured in “We Cared,” a story about corporate and bureaucratic policies in an office, on page 4. A staff editor for the New York Times, Jaworowski has had his fiction published in A Cappella Zoo, Quay Journal, and the Angler. His most recent play, “Interchange,” had a sold-out run in 2010 at WorkShop Theater in New York City.

Lavinia Kumar of Plainsboro’s poem, “Irish Farmer,” is on page 42. Her poetry has appeared in Waterways, Thatchwork, U.S.1 Worksheets, Caper, Pemmican, Ascent Aspirations, and the U.S.1 Summer Fiction issue.

Copies are available at all branches of the Mercer County libraries and in public areas through out the Mercer College campus. Visit www.mccc.edu or E-mail kelsey.review@mccc.edu for information on submissions for the 2012 edition. The deadline is May 15.

#b#Hyder Advances in Literary Contest#/b#

Monisa Hyder, of West Windsor wrote one of the 150-word life stories being considered for publication in an upcoming issue of Reader’s Digest magazine. Hyder’s story is available for viewing and voting on at facebook.com/ReadersDigest. Her story, “A Trusted Life,” is as follows:

“Trust. A five-letter word that determines the outcome of any given situation. A word so powerful that has the ability to float above the heads of the known and the unknown, abusing its power left and right, right and left. As we grow older we learn to determine who deserves the title ‘trust worthy,’ but do we ever get it right? Do we ever truly figure out the secret behind belief? Experience is essential to gain in this world, and experience of giving and gaining trust is crucial to survival. Without trust, we would not be able to survive. Yet the very key to our survival, is the disease that kills us all.”

The story is in contention for “Life … The Reader’s Digest Version,” a new series showcasing people’s personal stories to be published and receive a cash award. Stories will be voted on by consumers and winners will be selected by Reader’s Digest editors. Americans can vote for and submit 150-word stories about lessons, simple advice, funny moments, and other life stories at facebook.com/ReadersDigest.
