Kniewel Addresses Schedule Changes
Superintendent Victoria Kniewel posted the following statement, regarding the schedule changes caused by Hurricane Sandy, on November 2:
“I hope that you and your families are safe. Our hearts go out to those who have suffered great losses and hardships from Hurricane Sandy. Due to these extraordinary circumstances, WW-P schools have been closed for five days; at this time, seven of our ten schools have power.
“Working with the president of the WW-P Education Association, the president of the WW-P Service Association, the WW-P Administrators Association, and the president of the WW-P Board of Education, we would like to announce the following change to the 2012-2013 school year calendar:
“We have received notice that the New Jersey Education Association has cancelled its annual convention that was scheduled for Thursday, November 8 and Friday, November 9. [Schools were closed for these two days to allow staff members to attend the convention.] With the cancellation of the convention, we now will open schools on Thursday and Friday, November 8 and 9. This calendar change assists in the continuity of instruction and mitigates the impact on the academic calendar. We will prepare a revised calendar next week, and post it on the website.
“I expect that these two days will be productive days of learning for all. For those families who have plans that cannot be changed, please be advised that we will work together to minimize the impact of unavoidable absences by students and staff. In addition, we will work with staff and families who are without power and other services.”
