Mercer County Community College’s Kelsey Theatre is rolling out the classics for the 2014-15 season.
Twenty full-length dramas and musical productions are set to come to the Kelsey stage, along with eight shows offered through the Kelsey Kids Series performed by traveling professional troupes and local companies.
Pinnworth Productions’ Kiss Me, Kate, based on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, is scheduled to kick off the season Sept. 12 to 21.
In addition to Kiss Me Kate, the fall scheduled includes Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap from Sept. 26-Oct. 5 by The Yardley Players; Pierrot Productions’ The Secret Garden from Oct. 10-19; Maurer Productions OnStage’s Count Dracula from Oct. 24-Nov. 2; Playful Theatre Productions’ Jesus Christ Superstar from Nov. 7-16; and M & M Stage’s Miracle on 34th Street from Nov. 21-30.
Family events in December will add to holiday merriment. The Kelsey Players are set to present ’Twas the Night Before Christmas from Dec. 5-7 and The New Jersey Youth Ballet is set to perform The Nutcracker from Dec. 19-21. El Sueno, the Nutcracker-inspired Latin and Spanish dance spectacular by Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre is scheduled for Dec. 13.
More classics are in store in the new year with A Man for All Seasons is set for Jan. 9-18; Into the Woods from Jan. 23- Feb. 1; Cat on a Hot Tin Roof from Feb. 6 to 15; Lend Me a Tenor from Feb. 20-Mar. 1; a concert tribute to “1971’s Concert for Bangladesh” on March 7 and 8; Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS from March 13-29; Mamma Mia! The Movie Sing-A-Long on March 14 and 20; Romeo and Juliet from April 10-19; Picasso at the Lapin Agile from April 24-May 3; The Music Man from May 8-17; Mercer Dance Ensemble’s Modern Classics from May 23-24; They’re Playing Our Song from May 29-June 7; and The Winter’s Tale from June 12-21.
Children’s shows include Disney’s Frozen Movie Sing-A-Long set for Sept. 20; Pocahontas on Oct. 11; Charlotte’s Web on Nov. 1; The Lightning Thief on Jan. 17; Dog Loves Books on April 25; and Junie B. Jones on May 30.
Subscription series for the next season are now on sale. Discounted subscriber packages include premium seating, exchanges for performances of the same show, special “add-a-show” rates, advance sales of single tickets, and as much as 45 percent off regular ticket prices.
Current subscribers must renew by Aug. 10 to receive priority seating. New subscriber orders will be filled after Aug. 15.
Tickets for all single shows are set to go on sale Aug. 20.
Kelsey Theatre has open auditions for many of its productions and welcomes assistance from community volunteers to usher and work behind the scenes.
