West Windsor residents can begin putting trees at curb for pickup. Please remove all ornaments and tinsel. Pickup will be by Central Jersey Waste on its regular garbage day, or if they are scheduled for brush and leaf pickup, the trees will be picked up at that time. Trees will continue to be picked up over the next few weeks.

Plainsboro Public Library has launched a Change for Change Campaign to support the fundraising effort for the new library. There are cups throughout the town for people to toss their loose change in their direction. Tooth Fairy Dental Spa has already donated a jug of coins — $1,”184.30.

Mercer County Artists 2007 seek submissions of artists living, working, or studying in Mercer County, for the annual juried exhibition at Mercer County College. Artists must drop off their work on Saturday, January 13, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and pick up work not selected for the show later in the day. Burt Wasserman is this year’s juror.

Villagers Theater seeks play submissions for the 2007-’08 Kidsvill season. Directors are asked to submit scripts along with their availability. Plays should be no more than one hour and should require more imagination than elaborate sets. Submissions for the Black Box season includes musicals or straight plays, controversial scripts, and scripts with small casts.

Songwriting

Warner Brothers and VH1 offer songwriting hopefuls the chance to have their original love song professionally recorded in the “Your Music, Your Lyrics” songwriting contest. Write, record, and upload an original love song to www.talentload.tv/musicandlyrics. Videos will be streamed via the website and assessed on the basis of theme, lyrics, and overall musicality. Deadline is Saturday, January 20.

The winner will be flown to Los Angeles for the red carpet premiere of “Music and Lyrics” (www.musicandlyrics.com) and will have their song professionally recorded.

Art

Volunteers Needed

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Mercer County seeks volunteers to speak up in court for the best interests of abused and neglected children who have been removed from their homes. The 30-hour training will begin in March.

AAA Mid-Atlantic offers scholarships via the “AAA Travel High School Challenge.” Register online by Sunday, January 7, and take the online quiz between January 8 and 16. State semi-finalists continue to the state finals in March. Each state champion goes to Orlando in May.

South Brunswick Public Library offers the Anime Club for teens in grades 6 to 12 on the fourth Wednesday every month. The library also seeks entrants for the second annual Canned Film Festival featuring films no more than 15 minute in length with family-friendly content.

The creative writing group meets on the first Saturday of every month. The Teen Fight Club is a discussion group where teens discuss hot topics of their own choosing.
