Neha Rajan, a Plainsboro resident and recent graduate of High School North, has been recognized as a student leader by Bank of America’s Neighborhood Excellence Initiative, and earned a paid eight-week internship program at the Boys & Girls Club of Trenton. Rajan was one of five high school students from New Jersey, as well as more than 200 peers from across the nation, to participate in the program.##M:[more]##
Said Rajan: “I’ve gotten a lot of different experiences, like working as a counselor for six and seven year-olds, and shadowing the executive director and another financial director.” She has already started a yoga program at the Boys & Girls Club — and will be overseeing it twice a week during the school year.
In addition to the internships in community non-profits, the students attended Bank of America’s weeklong student leadership summit in Washington, D.C., from July 19 to 24.
Rajan, who will attend Rutgers in New Brunswick this fall, also earned a Village Grande scholarship as well as a West Windsor-Plainsboro P.T.S.A. scholarship.
She was an active Girl Scout for seven years and received her Gold Award for organizing community yoga classes. It was also through scouts that she learned about the Bank of America program. A violinist for nine years, she was a member of North’s Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a global affairs junior columnist, she has composed two articles for International Relations magazine. Her community service includes making “Homefront Baskets” for soldiers overseas, and participation in charity walks and soup kitchens.
