U.S. Rep. Rush Holt had 16 student interns in his congressional offices this summer. Congressional interns are selected on a competitive basis and contribute in a variety of ways to Holt’s service to central New Jersey, including aiding in legislative research, attending congressional hearings, conducting community outreach, troubleshooting constituent issues with federal agencies, and helping with office administrative duties.
Alison Aimers of West Windsor served in the West Windsor office and Yujin Lee, also of West Windsor, served in the Washington, D.C. office.
“As a recent college graduate, I applied for Representative Holt’s summer internship because I was interested in legislative affairs and constituent services,” says Lee who graduated from Lehigh University in May. “I was fortunate enough to find a second opportunity in Representative Holt’s District Office as a staff assistant following the end of my internship in DC.”
Aimers, a 2013 graduate from High School South, is a rising sophomore at Tufts University. “After joining political groups on campus and deciding that I want to major in political science, I knew that applying for an internship with Representative Holt would be a great way to get involved in a potential career choice,” she says. “ Interning in his district office has not only helped me gain experience but has also opened my eyes to the positive impact that congressmen can have on their constituents.”
