Inaugural Gift Show Raises Funds For Post-Prom

Marie Nesci and Lisa Pappa have taken an alternate approach to fund raising for High School South’s Class of 2014 Post Prom event. The party provides a safe, alcohol, and drug-free extravaganza from midnight until 6 a.m. on high school premises after the actual formal event concludes. Traditionally, parents work the class’s entire senior year to raise funds for the event. Now in their junior year, the Class of 2014’s Spirit Club is spear-heading the inaugural gift show at High School South on Sunday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Nesci and Pappa, who both have daughters in the Class of 2014, formed the Spirit Club in their freshman year — and have been slowly raising funds since. The organization has sponsored fundraising, spirit building events such as haunted hayrides, T-shirt design contests, and bake sales. They also have presented community service opportunities for the students by participating in the school’s annual flea market and raking leaves at the homes of senior citizens in the community.

“The idea for the gift show evolved through feedback from the shoppers at the craft show over the years,” says Pappa. Sherri Bailey, budget secretary for High School South — and the person responsible for the craft show for more than 25 years, approached Nesci and Pappa with the concept for the gift show.

Under the direction of Bailey, Nesci and Pappa have compiled an impressive number of more than 100 vendors, crafters, and artisans who will be selling unique merchandise. “Sherri Bailey believed that the team she put together could make this event happen,” says Pappa.

“Get a jump start on your holiday shopping,” says Pappa. “We have something for everyone on your list.” They will be showcasing handmade crafts, couture clothing, accessories, handbags, jewelry, home decor, cosmetics and beauty products, discounted golf apparel for men and women, outerwear, lacrosse clothing, baskets, cutlery, specialty foods, chocolates, candles, holiday decor, pottery, and more.

Vendors from West Windsor and Plainsboro include Mary-Jean Sokol with handbags, jewelry, and accessories; Natalie Caricato with designer label fashions; Cindy McClenahan represents Longaberger Baskets; and Carolyn Wisniewski presents Tupperware.

The Holiday Craft Show is still happening at the usual time, Saturday, December 1. “While the gift show will have a number of crafters, it will have a heavier emphasis on vendors,” says Pappa.
