Plainsboro resident Sayee Sanjana Naresh was honored by the New Jersey PTA through its Reflections 2017 program. She won the state award in two categories for her work in visual arts and film production. Naresh is a 7th grader at Community Middle School.
This year’s Reflections program theme was “What is your Story.” The art show and awards ceremony was held on June 4 at Jackson Liberty High School.
The PTA Reflections Program is an arts appreciation program that encourages children in preschool through grade 12 to express themselves in literature, musical composition, photography, visual arts, film/video production and dance choreography.
Now in its 48th year, this program offers schools and PTAs a way to showcase the importance of arts in education.
Educators of the year named
The West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District has announced the 2017 district Educators of the Year. Last year, the school district created a special recognition program to honor a teacher in each school. These teachers, selected by a committee of teachers, parents and administrators, were honored by the Board of Education at its meeting on June 6.
The winners were: Irene Allesee, Maurice Hawk Elementary School; Richard Coppola, Grover Middle School; Jeff Grabell, Dutch Neck Elementary School; MaryJean Mucciarone, Village School; Colleen Pedersen, Community Middle School; Dorothy Scranton, Millstone River School; Lynn Shakin, Town Center Elementary School; Heather Shwom, Wicoff Elementary School; Carolyn Soohoo, High School North; and Florence Walters, High School South.
The criteria for selection of teachers included: setting high expectations for all students; establishing a positive classroom climate and rapport with all students; developing feelings of self-worth and a love of learning in all students; using a variety of instructional strategies that enable students to be successful; Using educational technology effectively in support of learning; and contributing to quality professional development.
Deaths
John Stroczynski, 91, of Plainsboro, died on May 7. Born in Majdan Gorny, Poland, Stroczynski was a communicant of Saint John Paul II Parish at St. Stephen’s Church, Perth Amboy. He served in the Polish Army during World War II, and was the founder of the Pulaski Cadets in 1985 and was a member of the United Poles of America. He worked as a manager for Jasna Polana Estate and for Barbara Johnson.
Husband of the late Halina Stroczynski, survivors include his four children: Terry Judge, Ed Stroczynski and his spouse Ania, Henry Stroczynski and his spouse Karen, and Richard Stroczynski and his spouse Justyna.
