The annual election to seek approval of Plainsboro’s fire budget and elect two commissioners to the Board of Fire Commissioners will be held on Saturday, February 15, from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Plainsboro firehouse, 405 Plainsboro Road.
Up for voters’ approval is a $2.2 million budget, up from $2,166,500 in 2013. The fire district tax rate, which has not increased in several years, will remain at 5 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.
In the Board of Commissioners election, Krishna Jagganatthan will be seeking re-election to a three-year term. Theresa
Byrnes will be seeking her first, three-year term.
Officers Set. Earlier in the year the Plainsboro Fire Company announced its officers for the upcoming year. The company re-elected Jim Pedley as fire chief and elected 24-year veteran Tom Healey as president.
Pedley, a 15-year fire company veteran, is serving his third year as chief. A native of Floral Park, NY, where he also served as a volunteer firefighter, Pedley moved to Plainsboro in 1997 and joined the fire company a year later. He has also served as an officer-in-charge for the Plainsboro Rescue Squad and earned his EMT-B certification in 2004.
The chief is married to Kathryn Ricker-Pedley, who also is a certified firefighter and has an EMT-B certification. He has three children: Alexa, Kyra, and Olivia, who attend schools in Plainsboro.
Healey will mark 25 years as a Plainsboro firefighter in 2014. A native of Kearny, NJ, and a graduate of Holy Cross College, Healey previously served as fire company president from 1999 to 2002. He has also served as vice president, safety officer and is currently a lieutenant. He is also a certified individual and group critical incident stress counselor and has helped facilitate group peer counseling sessions for 9/11 first responders in New York since 2002.
He has two children: Connor, a student at Monmouth University, and Lauren, a student at American University in Washington, D.C.
Joining Pedley as Plainsboro line officers for 2014 are Deputy Chief Brian Wagner, Assistant Chief Roy Wagner, Captain Scott Kivet, Lieutenant Justin Schwartz, and Healey.
Fire company bench officers for 2014 are Patrick Monaghan, vice president; Vicki Wagner, secretary; and, Bob Corriveau, treasurer.
Founded in 1960, the fire company answered 557 calls in 2013.
