West Windsor-Plainsboro schools have two new students and the West Windsor and Plainsboro communities have many new helping hands, all as a result of Hurricane Katrina. ##M:[more]##
Hurricane relief has become a major concern throughout the community, raising funds with everything from a lemonade stand (see page 9) to a two-day car wash. More than $1,”125 was raised by a group of kids in Plainsboro who wanted to help the hurricane victims. Adam Druckman, Stefanie Infante, Sarah Klieger, Christina Roder, Kelsey Roder, Carolyn Campbell, Tommy Roder, Vicki Campbell, Alexandra Infante, Dan Druckman, Nikki Senopouos, Alex Senopoulos, and Richard Kleiger put together a plan to wash cars. The first day they made signs and collected buckets and towels. On day two they made computer leaflets and delivered them to every house in the neighborhood. Then they washed cars for two days to benefit the American Red Cross.
In a unified effort High School North Student Council and the school’s Red Cross Club collected and shipped bottled water, canned goods, and diapers to benefit Katrina victims. The student council group is now sponsoring a 5K run to benefit Hurricane Katrina relief on Sunday, October 2.
Executive board officers include President Ajay Singh, Vice President Matt Lodato, Secretary Matt Jacques, and Treasurer Peter Maa.
Their advisors are Julie Norato and Kristina Susca.
The 5K event will begin at High School North at 9 a.m. and make a loop along Grovers Mill Road to the end of phase two of the Estates at Grovers Mill. There is a $10 registration fee per runner. Prizes will be awarded to the top three males and females in each age division. Registration forms are available at www.northstudentcouncil.com.
The run was originally scheduled for October 8 but vice president Matt Lodato suggested rescheduling. “I thought we could give all the money to the relief effort,” he said.
