Coach Smith The Hun School named Todd Smith as the Raiders head football coach beginning this fall. Smith has a long and successful career coaching college and high school football, including leading
to a state championship. Smith played football for The College of New Jersey, where he later became an assistant football coach. He served as the head football, winter track and spring track coach at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South for eight years. During his time at WWPHS, the football team compiled an overall record of 63-22, earned divisional and conference championships five times and qualified for the NJSIAA playoffs seven times. Smith then joined the Hopewell Valley coaching staff as offensive coordinator, where he led the team to their first state championship in school history. He has been named Coach of the Year 10 times by the Trenton Times, Princeton Packet and Trentonian. He is also in his 13th year of teaching at Millstone River School. Hun School headmaster Jonathan Brougham said that not only does Smith have a successful record, but also has a positive influence on the players. “Coach Smith’s team records speak for themselves, but it is his coaching philosophy and the personal impact that he has has on so many former players that edge him ahead of a very qualified group of candidates,” Brougham said in a statement. Smith said his players should expect a program that places emphasis on attitude, investment, character and trust. “I coach because I feel that through football and athletics, I can teach my players life lessons. I think life’s greatest gift is when you realize what your passion is. I am lucky enough to have found mine,” Smith said in a statement. More information is online at hunschool.org.
