Born in Taiwan, Sun came to the United States when she was 10 and went to school in New York City from fifth grade through high school. She has a bachelor degree in industrial engineering from Cornell and a master’s in computer engineering from Syracuse University. She is married to Jim Hwang, a professor at Lehigh University.
Their children include Eileen, 24, who graduated from Princeton University with a degree in physics; Jason, 20, a student at Georgetown studying international politics; Andy, 16, a student at High School South; and Austin, 14, and Simon, 11, are at Grover Middle School.
Sun is an expert at volunteering and has worked with PTAs at several schools in a variety of activities. She was a member of the Human Relations Council of West Windsor until last month, and has worked at the Trenton Soup Kitchen, the Cherry Tree Club, and Elijah’s Promise. She also teaches Sunday School and leads children in the Bible Study Fellowship.
“I plan to spend the time swimming in rivers, playing sports and games, creating crafts, and enjoying authentic Chinese food,” she says. “The children I will be working with need a best friend, someone who will encourage them for who they are and love them despite their faults.” For more information about the program visit www.bringmehope.org.
