The grant provides $500 towards an environmental project in this school year and an additional $500 towards an environmental internship over the summer. The students worked with Tanya Oznowich from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to perform a small-scale energy audit of High School South to initiate the process of assessing the carbon footprint of the school. The team will present its findings to the Board of Education and the district administration in hopes of improving the facilities.
Sarah Yu, a sophomore at South, will participate in the environmental internship, by helping to plan and organize the 2009 Greening of West Windsor (GroWW) Environmental Fair.
