Eighty-five top science students from high schools in the state have successfully completed the three-week New Jersey Governor’s School in the Sciences program at Drew University. Participants included West Windsor residents Morven Chin, Nikita Deshpande, and Jeffrey Kuan.
The program introduced the state’s best and brightest high school students to college-level coursework and research in the sciences, preparing them to excel in the classroom and laboratory. Teams of students undertook original research projects on topics ranging from the unknown impacts of climate change to the origins of volcanic materials found in ancient pottery.
West Windsor residents Arnav Sood and Aana Bansal were two of 88 high-achieving high school students in this year’s New Jersey Governor’s School of Engineering and Technology at Rutgers.
Projects include designing a new airplane, reducing dance injuries, using thought to control computers, and developing a smart phone game for stroke rehabilitation. The scholars attended classes in modern physics, biomechanics, materials science, robotics, and computer programming. They also took field trips to corporate and industrial sites in and around New Jersey, such as a nuclear power plant; a high-performance networking firm; and a pharmaceutical research, development and manufacturing site.
The focus of the program is to prepare high school students to realize their full potential in the classroom and laboratory.
