Democratic incumbents Neil Lewis and Nuran Nabi each won their party’s nominations to two three-year Township Committee seats up for grabs in the November elections, but they will also be facing one Republican challenger, who also won a nomination in the primary election held on June 2.##M:[more]##
Lewis, who received 221 votes, and Nabi, who received 216, will face Paul O’Brien, who won 284 votes in the primary, in a town that has seen little Republican activity in the past.
Lewis — a 26-year township resident and a vice president at Xenobiotic Labs in Plainsboro — was elected to the Township Committee in 1995 and has been deputy mayor since 1998. Born in New York and now a resident of Bradford Lane, Lewis holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from CCNY and a PhD in medicinal chemistry from the University of Kansas.
Lewis was elected to the Township Committee after serving as a member of the Plainsboro Environmental Commission and on several WW-P school district committees dealing with student population growth issues.
Nabi, a resident of Kinglet Drive South, was appointed by the Township Committee in November, 2007, to fill the committee seat vacated by Ginger Gold Schnitzer. He was re-elected to fill the remainder of the term, which expires on December 31, 2009. He has previously served on the Planning Board. He and his wife, Zeenat, have been living in Plainsboro since 1994 and have two sons, Mushfik and Adnan, both of whom graduated from the West Windsor-Plainsboro school district.
Currently, he is serving as senior vice president of Applied Resource & Photonics Inc., of Harrisburg, PA. A retired research scientist, Nabi worked 22 years for Colgate Palmolive Co. and retired as an associate director of technology. He was the inventor of the Colgate Total toothpaste technology and has more than 100 patents and publications to his credit.
In addition to serving on the Planning Board, Nabi previously served three years on the township’s Human Relation Committee in the late 1990s.
O’Brien declined to be interviewed for this edition of the News, but information on the Ravens Crest East at Princeton Meadows website states that he serves as a liaison to facilitate communications and coordinate activities between the board, residents, contractor, and supervising engineer for a renovations project in the development.
The biography on the site states that he has managed several assisted living facilities, worked for healthcare organizations, and as a real estate broker. He is a graduate of Pace University and has a master’s degree in public administration from Kean University. A lifelong resident of New Jersey, he lives in Plainsboro with his wife, Denise, and daughter, Bridget, the site says.
