Princeton HealthCare System’s 19th Annual Golf Outing raised more than $229,000, the highest net proceeds in the event’s history, to support the Edward & Marie Matthews Center for Cancer Care at University Medical Center of Princeton.
Held on June 10 at the Metedeconk National Golf Club in Jackson, the outing drew 160 participants.
The Matthews Center for Cancer Care’s multidisciplinary team provides patients with advanced clinical care and compassionate support in a modern, warm setting. By providing a complete continuum of care, the center gives patients with cancer full access to the specialized clinical services, rehabilitative care and support they need during treatment and recovery.
Grand Slam sponsors—who contributed $15,000 or more for the PHCS Golf Outing—included Spacelabs Healthcare, Edward E. Matthews, Bill and Judith Scheide, Conner, Strong & Buckelew and SEI Investment Management. Champion sponsors—$10,000 to $14,999—included Duane Morris, Pepper Hamilton, Princeton Anesthesia and Trammell Crow. These nine sponsors combined to contribute more than $150,000. In total, 85 companies and individuals who do business or live in the region supported the event.
PHCS Golf Outing Committee honorary chair, Chairman Emeritus of the PHCS Board of Trustees, and member of the PHCS Foundation Board of Directors Edward Matthews said he was inspired by his wife’s battle with cancer to invest in a cancer center in central New Jersey.
“My late wife, Marie, battled cancer for many years and one of the greatest challenges in her care was the need to travel in order to access cutting-edge treatments,” Matthews said in a statement, “This is why, when PHCS announced it was building a new hospital, we decided to invest our philanthropic dollars to help build a state-of-the-art cancer center where central New Jersey residents could access world-class care while remaining close to home.”
