West Windsor-Plainsboro Girl Scouts held their annual World Thinking Day event on Sunday, February 10, at High School South. The event was attended by close to 1,”000 area Girl Scouts and their families.##M:[more]##
More than 60 troops presented exhibits representing different countries from around the world. Girls dressed in traditional national costumes, decorated areas with authentic items, ran games, and served food and drinks representative of these countries. Typical homemade fare included English scones with tea, Israeli hummus platters, Indian pakoras, Irish soda bread, and Mexican salsa.
In order to prepare for the day, girls not only prepared decorations and food, but spent time researching and learning about each of their countries. Some troops exchanged post cards or E-mail with Girl Scouts in foreign troops.
When not running their own booths, girls toured the world by visiting other tables and getting their “passports” stamped as a record that they were there. Girls greeted each other by exchanging “swaps” — small trinkets that represent their chosen country.
World Thinking Day, celebrated by Girl Scouts and Girl Guides around the world, was started in 1926.
