The Princeton Area Junior Woman’s Club finished another successful year of fulfilling over 1,”200 children’s wishes provided by the Division of Youth and Family Services. Anna D’Anna of West Windsor, this year’s chairman of the Wish Tree project, was instrumental in leading the project. Using ornaments made by West Windsor and East Windsor Girl Scouts, the club placed wishes on each ornament and hung them on trees throughout the West Windsor, Plainsboro, and Princeton areas.
Tree sponsors included Marketfair, West Windsor Library, Covance, PNC Bank, Peterson’s, IXTC, Scholastic, and Hill Wallack. Lisa Pappa of West Windsor hosted her own tree and with the help of friends and family was able to provide more than 100 gifts.
Bohren’s Moving Company provided manpower and trucks to pick up the gifts from each tree location and deliver them safely to DYFS. Mary Reale and Leslie Craven, also of West Windsor, delivered the final gifts to DYFS. Caseworkers distributed the gifts to the children.
In addition, the PAJWC hosted a family of eight (through DYFS) in fulfilling their wishes this holiday. Gifts of bedding, toys, electronics, and gift cards for clothing were presented to DYFS and well received by the family. PAJWC was also able to assist a family whose home had recently burned and members needed support this holiday time.
“Our club, DYFS, and the children want to thank everyone who participated in our project by purchasing gifts or by offering monetary donations,” says co-president Kathy Lane. “This year was especially phenomenal in the amount of presents we were able to provide and the area’s generosity never ceases to amaze us,” says co-president Elizabeth Carnevale.
The PAJWC is a chapter of the New Jersey State Federation of Woman’s Clubs, the largest woman’s volunteer service organization on New Jersey.
