After months of renovations, Catch a Rising Star Comedy Club, located in the Hyatt Regency, Carnegie Center, in West Windsor, is celebrating its grand reopening weekend on Friday and Saturday, September 20 and 21, with national headliner Bobby Collins. The facelift of the club features a new look as well as a new menu.
“Our newly renovated club is larger, sleeker, and better than ever,” says Suzy Yengo, CEO at Catch a Rising Star. “There are more seats, new tables and chairs, carpeting, lighting, and wallpaper. The colors are browns and golds.” The stage has been moved to the far right corner of the room. The room has high top tables around the perimeter and long tables in the middle.
The special weekend begins on Friday, September 20, with comedians James Goff, Ryan Maher, and Kevin Israel at 8 p.m. The grand opening night on Saturday, September 21, features Steve Trevelise, who developed his comedy chops at Catch a Rising Star, and the headliner Collins.
The New Jersey 101.5 evening host will be at Catch for several shows throughout the season to help warm up the crowd for the night. A Jersey boy, Trevelise was born in Newark, raised in Union City, moved to Marlboro when he was 15, and has lived in Old Bridge, Eatontown, East Windsor, and Roosevelt. He began his radio career in Long Branch and Trenton, worked for the Howard Stern Show, and has spent the majority of his career working in Philadelphia.
Trevelise, who joined New Jersey 101.5 two years ago, draws his material for his radio show and stand-up act not only from his life, but what goes on around him in the “great Garden State.”
Collins, who was named after his father’s favorite comedian, Bob Hope, has starred in his own Showtime specials, hosted VH1 Standup Spotlight, and was nominated for a CableACE award. His CDs are “On The Inside” and “Out of Bounds,” and his DVD, “Bobby Collins: Live From New York City,” was released in 2007. During his live stage performances in New York, Las Vegas, and Atlantic City, he has opened for Cher, Dolly Parton, Julio Iglesias, and Tony Bennett.
$45 VIP tickets are available for the Saturday show. General seating will be $35 for that night only. While some things stay the same, some are different. Catch still offers dinner show packages with the Crystal Garden Restaurant and hotel packages through the Hyatt Regency. The fake books that adorned the stage at “the old” Catch are now gone.
