Both Wilbo Wright and Tricia Fagan are busy focusing on and creating cultural events in Mercer County, but the West Windsor couple rarely work together. Their busy schedule this month reflects that.
Wright will perform at the opening reception for “Made in Metal,” an exhibit of art made in metal at Artworks in Trenton on Friday, September 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. He is half of the multi-instrumentalist duo “Stop Correcting Me” along with Eric Haltmeier. They will be presenting their suite, “Water Hammer,” at the event.
“The suite is a thread of ambient, metal-related themes, punctuated with musical activities that vary greatly in sound and scope,” says Wright. The duo is also in the process of releasing a single on Wright’s new label, Downer Soil, and are currently working on their first film score.
The exhibit includes 44 works by 31 artists featuring delicate jewelry, small figurative castings, large fixtures, and weighty sculptural abstractions, They are made in silver, bronze, iron, steel, and other metals, created through a variety of techniques.
Fagan, meanwhile, the gallery director at Mercer Community College, is showcasing “Plastics Alchemy,” an exhibit of artists who have volunteered at the gallery during the last 12 years. The exhibit opened Tuesday, September 7. A closing reception will be held Wednesday, September 29, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
“Our effort was to reach out to as many volunteers as we could and invite them to be part of this special show,” she says. “We also want to remind patrons that the pleasant, knowledgeable people who greet them at the gallery are often gifted artists.”
The works include paintings, prints, drawing, and sculptures in concrete, clay, and bronze. Artists include Renee Kumar of West Windsor and Flannery Miller of Plainsboro.
