The Old Barracks Association is set to present Authors in the Evening: A Fall Lecture Series at the Old Barracks Museum.
The free lecture series features historians and authors in the fields on New Jersey history and 18th century military history.
Authors in the Evening is set to begin with a lecture by Jack Kelly on his new book Band of Giants: The Amateur Soldiers Who Won America’s Independence Sept. 9. Kelly has been interviewed in the past for The History Channel and National Public Radio.
Don Hagist is set to give a lecture on his book British Soldiers, American War: Voices of the American Revolution Sept. 17. His focus is on the life of the ordinary British soldier in the late 18th century.
Next, Maxine Lurie is scheduled to present research outlined in her book New Jersey: A History of the Garden State Sept. 22. She is currently a professor of New Jersey history at Seton Hall University and frequently published on the state’s history.
Kenneth Miller is set to give a lecture on his book Dangerous Guests: Enemy Captives and Revolutionary Communities during the War for Independence Oct. 1. Currently, he is a professor of colonial and revolutionary history in North America at Washington College.
Larry Kidder is scheduled to discuss his book A People Harassed and Exhausted: The Story of a New Jersey Militia Regiment in the American Revolution Oct. 7. He currently is active in many historical associations and round tables.
David Petriello is set to give a lecture on his book Military History of New Jersey Oct. 14. He is an adjunct lecturer at Caldwell University and has taught the history of New Jersey.
The museum is set to open its galleries and gift shop at 6 p.m. on each evening; lectures begin at 6:30 p.m.. The authors’ books will be available for purchase on the evenings, but quantities are limited so pre-orders are encouraged. To place pre-orders, call (609) 777-3599.
