Come see why we are the longest running nursery school in the area!
As you enter a classroom at Dutch Neck Presbyterian Church Cooperative Nursery School it is like getting one big warm bear hug! From the dedicated teachers to the engaging and developmentally appropriate curriculum, DNPCCNS’s philosophy is dedicated to putting children first. That is why for 45 years, the school has been successful in helping children build their socialization skills while sparking their curiosity and love of learning.
“We look at every child as an individual with their own learning style and personality. We provide a multi-discipline curriculum that gives every child a chance to succeed,” said Barbara Fruh, DNPCCNS Director of Education and veteran teacher of 27 years. “At DNPCCNS, children feel loved and supported as they begin to explore the world around them in a classroom setting. Providing a positive first experience sets the tone for a love of learning throughout the child’s school years.” One thing that has remained constant is the commitment to small class sizes. Ranging from 10 to 18 students, with a teacher, assistant teacher and helping parent, our student/teacher ratio far exceeds the state mandate.
While DNPCCNS prides itself in being the oldest nursery school in the area, it places strong emphasis on adapting to meet the needs of its growing and diverse community. “Our unique structure allows us to offer flexible programs like our Buy Out agreement which reduces the parent’s cooperative time spent in the classroom,” says DNPCCNS Administrative Director, Kim Kelly, who was both a student and a parent with the school. “We also offer a June summer camp and in September, we offer Kindergarten Extension three to five days a week, mornings and afternoons, with district busing available.”
Enrichment programs allow for the extension of hours of a standard school day while offering the child a unique learning experience. DNPCCNS offers enrichment programs such as drama, cooking, and science. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the “Lunch Bunch” program, where children enjoy an extra hour with friends, learning table manners and more. There are several whole-school events throughout the year for families to enjoy. At DNPCCNS, we welcome and enjoy our parents’ involvement in their child’s educational experience.
