Carol Reichmann, a mathematics teacher at High School South received a 2006 Edyth May Sliffe Award for Distinguished High School Mathematics Teaching. She is one of 24 teachers throughout the United States and Canada to receive the recognition from the Mathematical Association of America.##M:[more]##

A teacher at South for 11 years, Reichmann receives a cash award, a letter of recognition, a Sliffe Award pin, one-year institutional membership in the MAA and in the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and 20 subscriptions to “Math Horizons” for distribution to high school students.

Reichmann was nominated for the award by students Sarath Velagaleti, Bohua Zhan, and Liu Xueya. Nominations are solicited from students in the 60 highest scoring American Mathematics competitions.

“Many mathematicians and others who use mathematics in their work received their first contact with challenging mathematics problems as part of their participation in the American Mathematical competitions,” said Carl Cowan, president of the MAA.
