John W. Genne, 72, of Plainsboro died January 17 at the University Medical Center of Princeton in Plainsboro. A graduate of Rutgers University, he served in the Army, and worked for National Starch and Chemical Company in information technology for more than 25 years.
Genne, who visited more than 50 countries, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. He participated in numerous marathons including Boston and New York.
Survivors include his wife Therese; a son David,; son and daughter-in-law Douglas and Constance; granddaughter Sarah; brother and sister-in-law Paul and Janie Lee, and their children Michael, Steven, and Anthony; sister-in-law, Kathleen, and her daughters Geraldine, Theresa, Mary, Patricia, Charlotte, and Kathleen; and brother and sister-in-law James and Eleanor, and their daughters Jennifer and Susanna.
A mass celebrating his life was held at Queenship of Mary Church in Plainsboro. Donations may be made to American Heart Association. A memorial service will be held in the spring in Virginia.
Joseph E. Sadofski, 77, of Plainsboro died January 19. Born in New Brunswick, he served in the Air Force and AF Reserves from 1961 to 1964. He was a retired Superior Court Judge of New Jersey.
After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and his JD from Georgetown Law, he began a private practice in New Brunswick, and for 16 years, served as legal representative to the Cranbury Planning Board, South Brunswick Board of Adjustment, Plainsboro Planning Board, Spotswood Planning Board, Piscataway Board of Adjustment, Monroe Township Planning Board, and served as assistant city attorney for New Brunswick. In 1981 he was appointed to the Bench of the Superior Court of New Jersey, sitting in New Brunswick and served in the Family, Civil, and Criminal sections, retiring in 1996.
Survivors include his second wife, Shirley Zuk of Monroe, two daughters and sons-in-law, Kristin and Paul Curcio of Freehold and Kathryn and Mark Hulings of Simi Valley, California; a sister, Loraine Rumore of Daytona Beach, Florida; and six grandchildren. V. Carolyn Hingher, 72, of Kingston died January 19 at Princeton Care Center. Born in Princeton, she was a longtime Plainsboro resident. She retired as the director of human resources for Caliper Inc. in 2005.

Sr. Edna (Sr. Henri) Lutton, RSHM, 94, died January 24, at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown, New York. Born in Jersey City, she entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in 1939. Although she taught around the world, her experiences including teaching at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School, Mercer Community College, and Rider University. Stanley Venosh, 79, of Carbondale, Pennsylvania, died January 26. Survivors include a granddaughter, Jennifer Leo of Plainsboro.
Elaine Mendoker Ferris, 74, of Plainsboro died January 27 at the Medical Center of Princeton. She was born in Jamesburg. Survivors include her husband, Victor; her two children, David and Tori Ann; and her granddaughter, Jocelyn Ann.
Phoebe Bailey Shallcross, 82, a longtime resident of West Windsor, died January 15.
Born in Mt. Kisco, New York, she graduated from Duke University Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in chemistry in 1951, and a PhD. from Brown University in 1958. She worked at DuPont, as a writer for “Chemical Abstracts,” and later as a tax preparer for H&R Block.
While at Brown she met her future husband, a fellow PhD. candidate. They moved to West Windsor in 1958 when he was offered a job at the RCA Sarnoff Research Center, where he would work for the next 37 years.
She had a long history of giving of her time as a volunteer in the West Windsor area, primarily at APAW; as a Cub Scout den mother; for the Princeton Chapter of the American Association of University Women, and the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of Princeton.
Shallcross organized one of the areas’ first aluminum recycling drives in the early 1970s, and was one of the earliest supporters of Friends of West Windsor Open Space.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Dr. Frank V. Shallcross; two children, Mark A. Shallcross of West Windsor, and Dr. David F. Shallcross of Piscataway; and one grandchild.
