Subhashini Venkatramani, a junior at High School South, has been practicing Bharatnatyam dance for 11 years with Ramya Ramnarayan of the Nrithyanjali Institute of Dance. She has performed for the New Jersey Tamil Sangam, Telugu Fine Arts Society, and Bridgewater Temple. Among other organizations, in 2006 she performed her arangetram (solo dance debut) at Robbinsville High School. Since the performance, she has continued her study of this ancient art form and continues to showcase her talent in and around New Jersey.
Another dancer from the WWP area is Aparna Shankar, who has also been studying Indian classical dance with Ramnrayan for more than 11 years. Since her solo dance debut in Chennai, India, in 2007, she has danced at a variety of locations including the Queens Public Television Network, New Jersey Folk Festival, a benefit for the Chinmaya Mission, and at the Wheaton Arts Festival.
Nrithyanjali Institute of Dance strives to bring the artistic traditions of Indian culture to residents throughout Middlesex County through programs and collaborations with educational and non-profit organizations. The group has participated in the Middlesex County Folklife series, numerous cultural festivals, and Plainsboro’s annual Traditions event.
